What is a Cold Sore?

Cold Sores are often also known as a fever blisters. They are fluid filled sacks that develop deep in our skin and erupt into blister like lesions that are most often found on the lips but can present literally anywhere on the body.  Most individuals experience them when under stress as this naturally lowers our immunity and makes it easier  for the lesion to erupt.  As they start the Cold Sore and Herpes sufferer will feel a tingling sensation on the face in the near vicinity of the lips or on them.

What actually causes a Cold Sore or Herpes outbreak?

Cold sores and fever blisters are caused by a virus in the Herpes family.  The term "Herpes family" is used because there are numerous strains of the Herpes virus and they all have unique presentations on and in the human body.  The type that causes the cold sore / fever blister outbreak is known as the Herpes Simplex 1 virus or HHV1. There is another member of that family known as the Herpes simplex 2 virus (HHV2)  which causes the same type of outbreak but it presents on the genitals and surrounding areas.

How did I get this Herpes / Cold Sore Virus?

Typically when you are fighting an infection you have a general idea of  when or how you were exposed but in the case of the herpes virus most people have no idea of when they got it but they often are aware of  who they got it from.  Cold Sores associated with a herpes outbreak are not a sign of recent exposure but are actually a sign of a reactivated herpes virus that has been dormant or alseep in the body for an undertermined period of time. The Virus was passed to you by another individual who was a carrier for the virus and it was in an "active" state when you kissed them or had other skin to skin contact with saliva or fluid from a herpes vesicle.

Now the inital Herpes outbreak clinically referred to as "primary herpetic simplex" is completely different the typical herpes cold sore in that you may not even be aware of when it occured because 99% of the time it occurs in childhood without any remarkable symptoms.  If it is a full initial outbreak it resembles a cold with fever and body ache as well as a sore throat which then progresses into a number of tiny oral blisters and ulcerations.  It usually takes its course over a 10 to 14 day period and makes eating a miserable activity.

How do I get rid of the Herpes / Cold Sore Virus?.

The Herpes virus does not leave the body.  In fact it  resides in over 90% of the population and only comes out when we are experiencing stress sufficient to supress our immune system.  There have been numerous topical treatments over the years that have promised relief from the virus but none have actually shown to eliminate the Herpes / Cold Sore virus from the body completely.  Sore Cold is unique in that the oils of this formula innactivate the virus and prevent it from replicating and immediately begin healing any irritated tissue.  Generally the virus will stop immediately so if applied as soon as you feel the tingling the cold sore will generally never erupt into a blister and you never need to deal with the disfiguring frustration of hiding your blistered lips.  Most users of Sore Cold find that they are able to stop their cold sore in 1 day.
